Meet Tshepo…the 8yr old son of a hard-working domestic worker, Marriam. Together, they live in a single room on the property of Marriam’s employer.

Tshepo has been privileged enough to attend a government school in the area and Marriam’s employer has always supported them wherever possible. He is a bright child with so much potential but unfortunately, he started experiencing some learning difficulty at school.

Tshepo was able to get some testing done by an educational psychiatrist. We were grateful to see that his IQ was not the root of his learning problems; it was undiagnosed ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder).

Thankfully, Tshepo was able to get medication for this, and he is now a focused and studious learner. This, however, along with a language barrier, has made him fall behind in the fundamentals of maths and language.

Tshepo’s school has recommended that he receives extra maths lessons and extra reading lessons in order to assist him, now that he is able to concentrate better.

This will allow him to develop the basic principals he is struggling with, while he is still young.

Marriam is not able to afford the costs of these lessons so we are appealing to anyone who has a heart for education to please invest in Tshepo’s future.

How you can help –  Tshepo’s needs:

  1. Once-off enrolment fee of R740 for maths lessons
  2. R860 p/m for maths lessons
  3. R290 p/m for reading lessons

Project Purpose will assess Tshepo’s progress per school term to see how much support he needs.
