‘Little N’
Getting into school
Update #1
Update #2
How to help
This is a series of two updates on the Project regarding Melissah. For full context, please read:
FROM NEGLECT TO KNOWLEDGE: EMPOWERING AN ABANDONED CHILD’S JOURNEY TO EDUCATION
Update #1
Uniform and stationary and supplies have all been pledged and promised to be delivered by different wonderful people .
We’ve agreed to spend some of the extra donated money on transport to and from school for the kids for the year. It’s a lot safer than them walking the 8km (5 miles) there and back, especially for little N since she’s never been to school, and it will be quite an adjustment.
It will put Melissah’s heart at ease knowing they will be picked up and dropped off and there are other kids in the community that use this transport as well.
A wonderful family came to drop off clothes for the kids this past weekend, and Melissah is so grateful.
Melissah will also be starting to work at SAINTs Animal Charity on a Thursday! Thanks so much Viv for this opportunity.
Melissah used to volunteer at Saints, and she tells us that she learnt so much there when she was helping out a few year ago. It inspired her to start her own little business in Diepsloot.
We really want to come alongside Justin and Melissah to help them care for these kids. One of the best ways is to network and empower them in their business.
Melissah’s number is 061 940 6766.
How you can help
1:
Melissah has a unique offer that is just brilliant – if you need deep spring house cleaning and tidying / decluttering done / she comes in for the day and does this for free and will then take away any preloved items that you are wanting to declutter for her shop. Justin has a car, so they can transport themselves.
Big sellers are shoes – especially ladies’ shoes , baby clothes and kids clothes . Any household items as well.
2.
We would love to be able to fit a bunk-bed into their little home for the kids – it will be a tight fit, and they will have to move around some furniture, but at the moment, where the girls are sleeping, doesn’t have a proper mattress – it’s just a pile of folded up blankets the size of half a single bed that they are sleeping on.
If anyone has a bunk-bed they are wanting to get rid of, please let Melissah and Justin know via 061 940 6766 – Please not a single bed.
Thanks so much peeps!! This is community, this is Ubuntu in practice ❤
Update #2
I am so thrilled to let you all know that “N” went to school for the first time this morning ….ever…in her life…
Thank you for coming around Melissah and Justin and enabling this to happen! In a world filled with scary stories and uncertain times, when things are looking hopeless… you all know what Mr Rodgers said “Look for the helpers… you will always find people helping”
Thank YOU!
Look for the helpers…
You will always find people helping.
